On April 8, 2025, the grand opening of the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Genomic Research at the Department of Biochemical Engineering took place at METU.

The ribbon was cut by the rector of the university, Gulnar Alibekovna Sarsenbekova. The event was attended by Huang Xiaoming, Consul for Higher Education of China, Ghalib Mammadovich Efendiev, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences from Azerbaijan, as well as representatives from universities in Russia and Malaysia.

The exhibition materials of METU doctoral students were presented: Seisenova Aigerim demonstrated the study "Genes of resistance to major apple tree diseases and relevant markers in the breeding of new apple varieties"; Ashkenbayeva Akerke showed materials on the topic "Improving the planting material Fragaria ananassa varieties of foreign collections to create basic queen cells". Dukenbayeva Bagdat presented research on the topic "Seed research of the medicinal plant Dracocephalum ruyschiana L. for further storage in the Seed Bank." Ivan Filatov presented exhibition materials on the topic "Study of the antagonistic activity of collection cultures of lactic acid bacteria against pathogens of bread diseases" (online), and Azamat Ormakhaev showed materials on the topic "Introduction of strawberries".

The 2nd year students of the Department of Biochemical Engineering, Alfiya Tugeeva and Anzor Kaziev, also took part with the results of the scientific project "Epidemiology and molecular Biology of avian pathogen resistance", which aroused great interest among the guests and participants of the laboratory opening.

The opening of the laboratory was an important step in the development of the university`s scientific base and the creation of conditions for further innovative research.
