Literary and Educational Evening “Zheltoksan. Hearts Striving for Freedom” Held at METU

At METU, on the eve of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a meaningful literary and educational evening titled “Zheltoksan. Hearts Striving for Freedom” was held, organized by the Scientific Library and the Department of Youth Policy.

The main aim of the event was to deepen young people’s understanding of the historical significance of the December 1986 events, to honor the courage of those who fought for freedom and independence, and to convey the true spirit of that period to the younger generation.

The guest of honor was Sholpan Bakytzhankyzy Kysymbetova, a direct participant in the Zheltoksan events, a member of the Kazakhstan Authors’ Society, as well as a composer and educator. Through her personal memories, she vividly shared the emotions of that time—its hardships and hopes, the determination, resilience, and patriotic spirit of the youth who stood for justice and freedom.

During the evening, participants learned new historical facts about the crucial role of the Zheltoksan events on Kazakhstan’s path to independence and the bravery of the young people involved. The event contributed to strengthening patriotic values, respect for national history, and civic responsibility among students.

Such educational initiatives are regularly organized at METU and play an important role in fostering spiritual development and preserving historical memory among the youth.
