Developing Cultural and Cognitive Competencies through Theatrical Art

On April 25, 2026, at the International Engineering and Technological University, under the supervision of M. Igilikova, a lecturer in the “Kazakh Language” course of The Department of Social and humanitarian disciplines and world languages, members of the literary and educational club “Söz qudireti,” along with first-year students of the educational programs “Technological Machines and Equipment,” “Fruit and vegetable growing and agro-soil science,” and “Technologies and engineering of food production” attended a performance based on Chingiz Aitmatov’s work “My Poplar in a Red Headscarf” at the Kazakh State Academic Theater for Children and Youth named after G. Musrepov.

The main objective of the cultural event was to increase students’ interest in fiction, to foster aesthetic appreciation through theatrical art, and to develop communicative as well as cultural and cognitive competencies in the Kazakh language among students of other nationalities. During the performance, universal human values such as love, fidelity, and responsibility were profoundly conveyed through stage interpretation, contributing to the development of students’ skills in perceiving and analyzing literary works.

At the end of the performance, the students were filled with vivid impressions, showed empathy for the characters, and shared their reflections during the discussion. Many noted that the content of the production encouraged deep reflection and prompted a reconsideration of moral values. This cultural and educational event had a positive impact on the development of their linguistic, cultural, and aesthetic competencies, as well as their personal growth.
