On July 9, 2026, the International Engineering and Technological University (METU) welcomed Toktar Ongarbayevich Aubakirov—Kazakhstan`s first cosmonaut, Hero of the Soviet Union, People`s Hero of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Academician of the International Academy of Engineering.

During his visit, the distinguished guest met with the university leadership and staff, sharing his views on the importance of education, nurturing the younger generation, and preparing future professionals. He also encouraged students to pursue knowledge, continuously improve their skills, and strive for excellence in their future careers.
