MЕTU REPRESENTATIVES PARTICIPATE IN FLOWER-LAYING CEREMONY MARKING ABAY DAY

On August 10, in celebration of Abay Day, a flower-laying ceremony was held in Almaty at the monument to the great Kazakh poet, thinker, and educator Abay Kunanbayuly. The commemorative event, held at Abay Square in front of the Palace of the Republic, was attended by the Akim of Almaty, Darkhan Satybaldy, representatives of the intellectual and cultural community, deputies of the city Maslikhat, members of the Public Council, representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan, staff of the M.O. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art, representatives of the education and cultural sectors, as well as young people.

Representatives of the International Engineering and Technology University (MЕTU), led by Rector Darkhan Berikovich Akpanbetov, also took part in the solemn ceremony honoring the memory of Abay. The university delegation included the Director of the Department of Youth Policy and members of the academic staff of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities and World Languages. The university representatives laid flowers at the monument to the great thinker, paying tribute to Hakim Abay, whose legacy has made an invaluable contribution to the spiritual and intellectual development of the Kazakh people. The legacy of Abay Kunanbayuly is an integral part of the spiritual heritage of the Kazakh people and a unique cultural treasure that resonates with universal human values. His ideas on the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment, honest work, morality and justice, national unity, and spiritual development remain highly relevant to contemporary society. Hakim Abay`s concept of the “Complete Human” (“Tolyq Adam”), together with his understanding of science and education as essential foundations for the intellectual and moral development of the individual, closely aligns with the fundamental values of modern education. In this regard, the study of Abay`s legacy and the promotion of his moral and spiritual teachings among students constitute an important dimension of the educational and intellectual mission of higher education institutions.

The Abay Day event was also attended by representatives of national and local media outlets and television channels, which provided extensive coverage of the flower-laying ceremony. Participants laid flowers at the monument to the great poet and paid tribute to his memory. At the conclusion of the ceremony, People`s Artist of Kazakhstan Bolat Abdilmanov performed the monologue “The Enigma of Abay” (“Abaydyñ Jumbağy”), conveying through the power of the spoken word the depth of Abay`s philosophical thought and spiritual world.

         Abay Day is not only an occasion to honor the creative and intellectual legacy of the great thinker, but also a significant celebration of spiritual and cultural heritage, helping to preserve and pass on to future generations his enduring ideas of morality, knowledge, science, honest work, and justice.Abay`s legacy remains an enduring spiritual compass for national consciousness, knowledge, wisdom, and moral development. A profound understanding of the great thinker`s heritage and its transmission to younger generations provide an important foundation for ensuring continuity between national values and education.
