Students from Uzbekistan Become Part of METU’s International Community

The International Engineering and Technological University hosted a meeting between representatives of the Department of International Cooperation and international students from Uzbekistan who enrolled at METU in the current academic year.

For these students, their introduction to the university began back in April, when representatives of the METU Department of International Cooperation held career guidance meetings in Tashkent and Chirchiq. During the presentations, prospective students learned about the university’s educational programs, study opportunities, international prospects, and student life in Almaty.

According to the students, their first introduction to METU during these career guidance activities made a positive impression and played an important role in their decision to choose the university for further study. Today, they are already part of METU’s international student community.

The current meeting became a natural continuation of this work, now focusing on the students’ adaptation to studying and living in Kazakhstan.

Representatives of the Department of International Cooperation provided detailed consultations on obtaining temporary residence permits, migration registration, registration at the place of residence, and the preparation of the required documents.

Special attention was also given to each student’s further course of action, including document processing deadlines, the sequence of necessary procedures, and how to contact the Department of International Cooperation if additional questions arise.

The meeting was held in an open-dialogue format. Students were able to ask questions not only about migration procedures, but also about the academic process, everyday adaptation, life in Almaty, and the university environment.

During the meeting, students also shared their first impressions of the university’s infrastructure and living conditions. In particular, Allayar Aitniyazov spoke positively about the conditions in the METU dormitory, highlighting the comfort and convenience provided for students who are adapting to life in a new country.

For international students, such living and organizational conditions are especially important, as they directly affect the adaptation process, academic motivation, and the overall student experience.

It is especially meaningful that students who only a few months ago were getting to know METU as prospective applicants are now studying at the university and taking their first steps in a new academic environment.

For the Department of International Cooperation, this work is part of a continuous process — from introducing prospective students to the university and providing career guidance to supporting their admission, adaptation, and further study experience.

METU continues to strengthen its international student community and create an environment where international students can feel confident, receive the support they need, and fully participate in the academic and student life of the university.

The journey from a first introduction to METU to studying in its classrooms demonstrates how the university’s international engagement creates real educational opportunities for students.
