“Family: Where Life Takes Root”: A Student Meeting on Family Values

On 17 September 2026, METU University held a mentoring session entitled “Family: Where Life Takes Root” to mark Family Day. Students from groups СС-26.1р and ТиПП-26.1р took part in the meeting, led by M. Igilikova, an instructor in the Department of Social Sciences, Humanities and World Languages. The session aimed to deepen students’ understanding of family values and encourage respect for parents and care for loved ones. In her opening remarks, the instructor highlighted the importance of family in people’s lives and the role of mutual respect and responsibility in everyday relationships. A question-and-answer session and an open discussion followed. Students shared their views on the family’s role in society and the importance of trust, understanding and support among loved ones. Giving each participant an opportunity to be heard helped connect the discussion with students’ personal experiences.

During the practical activity, participants created a mind map on “Family Values.” They organised ideas around love, kindness, respect, trust, harmony and mutual support, identifying the foundations of strong family relationships. The meeting concluded with students sharing heartfelt wishes for their families’ well-being, unity and happiness. The session provided a meaningful opportunity to reflect on family values while practising attentive listening and respect for different perspectives.
