On 15 October 2026, the International Engineering and Technology University hosted a round table entitled “Economic Science in the Works of Scholars: Ideas, Concepts and Discoveries” as part of the “Reading Nation” programme.
The event was organised by Manatzhan Ashimkulovna Tleuzhanova, Candidate of Economic Sciences and Professor of the Department of Economics and Business.
The main purpose of the round table was to introduce first-year students of the Department of Economics and Business to academic books, textbooks and research works by Kazakhstani and international scholars who have made significant contributions to the development of economic science.
During the event, first-year students delivered presentations on the lives, academic activities and key ideas of prominent economists and statesmen. The works and professional legacies of Adam Smith, Kenzhegali Sagadiyev, Kenzhegali Abenov, Bakytzhan Zhumagulov, Tuimebay Ashimbayev, Orazaly Sabden, Marat Ospanov, Daulet Sembayev, Zhaksybek Kulekeyev and Sagyndyk Satybaldin were presented.
Participants discussed the significance of the presented academic ideas, their influence on the development of economic thought and their relevance to the modern economy. The students actively delivered presentations, exchanged opinions and answered questions from faculty members of the Department of Economics and Business.
The round table helped broaden the academic outlook of first-year students, develop their research and presentation skills and increase their interest in reading academic and educational literature.
Events of this kind, held as part of the “Reading Nation” programme, promote a culture of reading, strengthen the connection between education and research and create opportunities for the intellectual and professional development of METU students.
