“Sovereignty: Our Nation’s Aspiration”: Lessons of Independence and the Responsibility of Future Generations

Understanding the value of sovereignty begins with learning the history of one’s country. This idea shaped an educational session entitled “Егемендігіміз – ел мұраты” (“Sovereignty: Our Nation’s Aspiration”), held at METU University on 23 October 2026 as part of the History of Kazakhstan course. The session brought together students from groups ТМО-26-1к and ТиПП-26-1,2к and was led by Zh. Q. Tilebaldy, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines and World Languages. The session aimed to explore the historical significance of Kazakhstan’s independence, reflect on national values and develop students’ historical awareness and civic responsibility. By examining the country’s path to sovereignty, students connected the lessons of the past with the challenges and responsibilities of the present. Discussions addressed Kazakhstan’s journey towards independence, national aspirations and the country’s future. Students shared their perspectives and expanded their historical knowledge. The exchange encouraged them to consider sovereignty in relation to state independence, collective historical memory, national identity and aspirations for further development.

A central educational theme was the connection between respect for the country’s history and individual civic responsibility. Valuing independence begins with understanding the past, respecting one’s native language and culture, pursuing education and being prepared to contribute to society. In this context, the session encouraged students to reflect on their own role in shaping the country’s future. By combining historical learning with open discussion, the session helped students deepen their understanding of sovereignty. Preserving national heritage, valuing unity and approaching independence with a sense of responsibility emerged as its key messages.

Sovereignty is a legacy entrusted to future generations. Its continued strength depends on knowledgeable, thoughtful and responsible young people.
