English Language Week: From Active Student Life to International Opportunities

On 29 October 2026, METU University hosted “Student Life”, a meeting held as part of English Language Week. The event was organised by the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines and World Languages, with the participation of the Director of the university’s Department of International Cooperation. The meeting explored how students can make their university years rich in learning, discovery and meaningful initiatives. Participants exchanged ideas on taking an active role in university life, building connections, supporting one another and turning ideas into practical projects. The discussion highlighted how a rewarding student experience grows through shared interests, creativity and community initiatives alongside academic study.

Academic mobility and international educational opportunities were another key focus. Participants discussed exchanges with international partner universities, participation in international programmes and intercultural communication. Particular attention was given to the role of English in accessing these opportunities, adapting to an international academic environment and developing professional networks. During the open discussion, students shared their ideas and suggestions. The conversation encouraged student initiative, collaboration and thoughtful engagement with the opportunities available at the university. Organised by the department, the meeting connected English language learning with students’ practical goals: gaining a quality education, acquiring international experience and bringing their own initiatives to life. At the heart of the event was a shared commitment to building an active, closely connected and supportive student community.
